Slim Ricks BBQ School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children, young people and vulnerable adults who participate in our activities.
We believe that everyone has the right to feel safe, respected and protected from harm. The welfare of participants is always our highest priority, and we are committed to providing a safe, supportive and inclusive environment in which individuals can learn, develop and enjoy positive experiences.
All staff working directly with children or vulnerable participants hold appropriate DBS checks and are expected to follow our safeguarding procedures at all times. Activities are overseen by our Designated Safeguarding Lead, who is responsible for receiving and responding to safeguarding concerns.
Slim Ricks BBQ School operates a parent and caregiver supported attendance model for children’s activities. Parents, caregivers or responsible adults are expected to remain on site throughout sessions unless alternative arrangements have been agreed in advance.
Any safeguarding concerns are taken seriously and will be dealt with promptly, appropriately and confidentially in accordance with our safeguarding procedures.

SEND Inclusion
Slim Ricks BBQ School is committed to creating an inclusive, welcoming and supportive environment where children, young people and adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) can participate confidently and meaningfully in our activities.
We recognise that every individual has unique strengths, interests and support needs. Our aim is to remove barriers to participation wherever reasonably practicable and provide opportunities for everyone to enjoy cooking, food education and outdoor learning experiences.
Activities are designed to be flexible and may be adapted to support a range of communication, sensory, physical and learning needs. We utilise visual learning resources, accessible teaching approaches and specialist equipment where appropriate to help participants engage successfully.
To ensure appropriate support can be provided, SEND specific sessions are limited to a maximum of 12 participants and are supported by a minimum of two staff members. We operate a parent and carer supported attendance model and actively encourage collaboration with families to help us understand and support individual needs.
At Slim Ricks BBQ School, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to learn, build confidence, develop practical life skills and enjoy positive experiences within a safe and inclusive community.

Health & Safety
Slim Ricks BBQ School is committed to providing a safe, healthy and enjoyable environment for all participants, families, staff, volunteers and visitors.
The safety and wellbeing of everyone attending our activities is a priority. We take reasonable steps to identify, assess and manage risks associated with cooking, food preparation, outdoor learning and live fire activities.
All activities are supported by appropriate risk assessments and are delivered in accordance with established health and safety procedures. Staff are trained to maintain safe working practices and to respond appropriately to accidents, incidents and emergencies.
Our team includes Food Safety Level 2 certified and First Aid trained staff. Appropriate hygiene procedures are followed during food preparation activities, and cooking equipment is operated under supervision with safety measures in place.
Slim Ricks BBQ School maintains Public Liability Insurance of £5,000,000 and regularly reviews its procedures to ensure activities remain safe, accessible and enjoyable for all participants.
We encourage participants, parents, caregivers and visitors to work with us to promote a positive culture of safety, responsibility and mutual respect.

Photography & Social Media
Slim Ricks BBQ School may sometimes take photographs and videos during classes, events and activities for promotional, educational and marketing purposes. These images may be used on our website, social media channels, printed materials and other promotional content. We will always obtain consent from participants before taking photographs or videos and before publishing images or videos on our social media channels or website.
We are committed to respecting the privacy of all participants. Where children, young people or vulnerable adults are involved, photographs and videos will only be used in accordance with the permissions provided by parents, carers or legal guardians.
We will always ensure that individual wishes are respected regarding photography and video recording. Participants, parents and carers who do not wish to be photographed or recorded can inform a member of staff at any time, and we will take reasonable steps to ensure their preferences are respected.

Staff training and Development
At Slim Ricks BBQ School, we are committed to ensuring that all staff, volunteers, and instructors are appropriately trained to deliver safe, inclusive, and high quality experiences for all participants.

The organisation exists to provide inclusive cooking, food education and outdoor learning experiences that promote confidence, independence, wellbeing and practical life skills for people of all ages.
The objectives of Slim Ricks BBQ School are to:
• Deliver safe, inclusive and accessible educational cooking activities.
• Promote participation in food education, outdoor learning and practical life skills development.
• Support children, young people and adults, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), to access meaningful learning experiences.
